What is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and how do I reduce the risks for my baby?

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) – sometimes known as “cot death” – is the sudden, unexpected and unexplained death of an apparently healthy baby.  Parents can reduce the risk of SIDS by always placing baby on their back when they sleep and not smoking while pregnant or after the baby is born. Breastfeeding reduces the risk of SIDS. For further information see here:

Care of Next Infant (CONI) Programme was set up by the Lullaby Trust and is run in partnership with the NHS. It provides specialist advice, information and support for those who have suffered the sudden and unexpected death of a baby.
