All maternity providers in Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire (GMEC) are working together in a local maternity system to improve care for expectant parents in our area. The vision is that:
‘Women and babies will receive kinder, safer and more personalised maternity services.’
Ensuring choice and personalisation of maternity services was a key recommendation in the national maternity review.
In response to the review GMEC developed an implementation plan to achieve these recommendations. The plan was created with women and their families, ensuring that it met the needs of those within our area. And so, whilst we are working hard to ensure that you access high-quality care, we also want to help you choose the services most suited to your needs.
This website aims to provide a choice of maternity services throughout GMEC. In your area you have a choice of 10 maternity units, including homebirth, alongside midwifery unit (birth centre), a free standing midwifery led unit and obstetric units (delivery suites). Where your baby is born is an important choice for you and your family to make.
Should you have any questions or concerns, your midwifery team will be able to help you every step of the way, so that when the time comes you will have the birth that is best for you and your baby.
